Being held captive…and don’t even know it?
MissionFest Film screening of “Captivated: Finding Freedom in a Media Captive Culture” on February 23, 2013
Everyone agrees that we live in a media-saturated society, but how many would consider themselves captives? Yet it is happening. People of all ages are being held hostage by television, video games, social networks, movies, texting, and tweeting.
On February 23, MissionFest will be screening the Canadian Premiere of documentary “Captivated” at Global Kingdom Ministries. This documentary will explore the impact of excessive media consumption as individuals and as a culture, which has led to disconnection, discontentment, and captivity. There is now overwhelming evidence of growing physical, psychological, moral, and spiritual problems when media is consumed without discretion.
This feature-length documentary is not anti-media or anti-technology. It addresses concerns, but also gives expert advice, pastoral counsel, biblical wisdom, and inspiring testimonies. Discover insightful solutions from media experts, church leaders, inspiring individuals and families. Most importantly, you’ll observe how God’s word addresses the unique media challenges we face today.
Come and discover the personal stories of everyday people who have found freedom from their former bondage to media and technology. Nick, an auto mechanic, shares about his former addiction to NASCAR and NFL. Corey, a young skateboarder, talks about his experience of going on a media fast. Neysa candidly admits her struggle with Farmville on Facebook. Learn what happens when a camp for troubled teens makes the students unplug for a year. Find out which two groups of people don’t believe violent media affects children and teens.
Join producer and speaker, Phillip Telfer, on a journey to find answers to these questions in his engaging and eye-opening documentary. Get the inside scoop on what Phillip learned as he traversed the country to interview media experts, church leaders, and inspiring individuals and families.
